Wake Foil Setup: Wing, Mast and Board by Rider Weight

NOVEMBER 3, 2026

Table of contents

For wake foiling, we recommend one setup per rider: a Silk V2 front wing sized to your weight, an 85 cm (33.5 in) carbon mast and the Pulse board. The table below gives your wing size and your mast. To see every part made for riding behind a boat, go to our wakefoil collection.

Find your setup in one minute

Use the AFS foil finder. Choose wake, enter your weight and your level. You get one front wing, one stabilizer and one mast.

Wake foil setup by rider weight

Behind a boat, handling matters most. Then forgiveness and speed. Glide and stability count less. That is why we recommend the Silk V2 front wing for wake foiling.

Your weight sets the wing size and the mast. These setups are for an intermediate rider:

Rider weight Silk V2 front wing Mast
Under 60 kg (under 132 lb) 650 HM 85 cm
60 to 68 kg (132 to 150 lb) 750 HM 85 cm
69 to 75 kg (152 to 165 lb) 850 HM 85 cm
76 to 77 kg (168 to 170 lb) 850 UHM 85 cm
78 to 87 kg (172 to 192 lb) 950 UHM 85 cm
88 to 96 kg (194 to 212 lb) 1050 UHM 85 cm
97 kg and over (214 lb and over) 1150 UHM 85 cm

Does your level change the wing size?

Yes. If you are new to wake foiling, go one size bigger. If you already ride wake with ease, go one size smaller. The 650 is the smallest Silk V2 and the 1150 the largest: at either end, keep the size from the table.

The mast that goes with it

For wake foiling, we recommend an 85 cm (33.5 in) mast, whatever your level. The construction depends on your weight:

To compare our carbon masts, read how to choose the right AFS carbon mast.

The stabilizer

Your stabilizer depends on your front wing size. Enter your weight and level in the foil finder to get the stabilizer that pairs with your Silk V2.

The board: Pulse

We recommend the Pulse. It is a minimal foil board for demanding wake, kite and tow foil riders. One size: 4’0″ x 19.3″ (122 x 49 cm), 19 liters, 3.3 kg (7.3 lb).

  • Low volume: it sinks easily for an effortless takeoff.
  • Double carbon reinforcement on the rails, for the knocks of boat transport.
  • Compact: it fits on wakefoil racks and takes little space on the boat.
  • Multiple inserts to set your strap position.

FAQ

What size wake foil wing do I need?

It depends on your weight and your level. An intermediate rider of 72 kg (159 lb) rides the Silk V2 850. At 90 kg (198 lb), it is the 1050. Go one size bigger if you are new to wake, one size smaller if you ride with ease.

How long should a wake foil mast be?

85 cm (33.5 in), at every level. Up to 75 kg (165 lb), choose the HM. From 76 kg (168 lb), choose the UHM.

Can I use my wing foil front wing behind the boat?

For wake, we recommend the Silk V2. Behind a boat, handling counts more than glide or stability, and that is what we chose it for.

Which board for wake foiling?

The Pulse. It comes in one size: 4’0″ x 19.3″, 19 liters. It is built for wake, kite and tow foil.
