We’re here to provide you with comprehensive answers and advice to help you make the right choice.

How to use the product

Assemble your foil in no time with just a few screws. Two for the stabiliser – three for the mast/fuselage connection – three for the front wing.
You can leave your foil fully assembled. The only thing to check, especially when the foil is new, is the tightness of the wings and especially the Tbar in the case of a demountable foil. The parts are going to be made during the first sessions and may move a little.
At AFS we have always used full carbon. Full carbon means no corrosion or oxidation, so you don’t really need to rinse your foil. It’s just a quick rinse with clean water to remove any impurities that may be created by hydrocarbons or algae, depending on your spot.
It is not recommended to store wet foils in their covers. Storing a wet foil in a closed, unventilated cover can lead to discolouration or colour transfer, even if there is no mechanical risk of oxidation.
That’s the advantage of carbon, you don’t need to add anything – just ride!
There are several ways to store your foil. You can store it fully assembled on your board, using individual covers. There are also carrying cases that allow you to store your foil completely disassembled.
We recommend rinsing the board after each session and drying it out of the cover before storing. This way, your decorations will last longer, and you’ll avoid osmosis and mildew.
The decompression screw is located on your board. It is very important because it regulates the pressure inside the board, which can increase with temperature or altitude. If this pressure is not regulated, it can damage your board. It is therefore crucial to open this screw when storing the board, especially in hot places like a car or a sunny beach. If you have an automatic decompression screw, the board regulates itself.
No, you don’t want to start with straps. Consider them when you start jibing. To install the straps, place them in a V-shape in the predefined holes with the appropriate screws supplied when you buy AFS straps. It’s very important to use the screws supplied, as their length and diameter are adapted to the inserts on our boards. Make sure you insert the screws straight and not askew. You can also use antitwist to prevent the strap from turning around the screw. When it comes to adjustment, there are two schools of thought: those who put the whole foot in by opening the straps completely, and those who put only half the foot in by tightening the straps more. This will help to get the foot out more easily in the event of a fall. It all depends on your morphology and taste.
We recommend rinsing the board after each session and drying it out of the cover before storing. This way, your decorations will last longer, and you’ll avoid osmosis and mildew.
Your wing’s leash can be connected in two different ways: 1. If you have a piece of rope at the end of your leash, create a loop using the chair knot technique, for example. 2. If the loop already exists, it is sewn into the leash. Once the loop is OK, pass it through your wing attachment (the small cord located at the portage/freefly handle), then iron your leash inside this loop.
Pass the leash attachment through your hand, then tighten so that the loop can no longer pass your hand without cutting off your circulation. There are no precise rules for choosing which arm to put your leash on: right or left. It all depends on your preferences.
Roll the sail starting from the sides, also known as the ears, rather than folding it. This is particularly important if your sail has plastic windows, as folding can create angles that weaken the fabric or plastic of the windows. Once both sides are rolled up, fold the whole assembly starting at the back to expel air from the central batten. Stow the valve in its neoprene protection, then fold the sail one last time. Make sure you don’t overfold the sail if you want to keep it for a long time. Finally, put the sail back in its bag.
Whether in fresh or salt water, we recommend rinsing the wing. It’s best to rinse with rainwater, which has less limescale than tap water. Allow your wing to dry completely before storing. Do not dry your wing in the sun, as this could damage it. It is also advisable not to hang the wing up to dry or store it, to prevent the bladders from shifting or falling into the leading edge or batten.
