Pick your parawing size based on wind. Your weight sets the size of your front wing and your board. These are two separate choices, so make them one at a time. To see all the gear for this discipline, visit our parawing page.
What size parawing for your wind?
Our parawing, the Stow, comes in three sizes. We recommend changing sizes based on wind only.
| Size | Span | Weight | Wind range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5 m² | 1.89 m (6 ft 2 in) | 0.48 kg (1.1 lb) | 25 to 40 knots |
| 3.5 m² | 2.24 m (7 ft 4 in) | 0.57 kg (1.3 lb) | 15 to 30 knots |
| 4.5 m² | 2.54 m (8 ft 4 in) | 0.64 kg (1.4 lb) | 12 to 25 knots |
Your usual wind is between 15 and 30 knots? Go with the 3.5 m². You mostly ride in light wind, between 12 and 25 knots? Go with the 4.5 m². In strong wind, between 25 and 40 knots? Go with the 2.5 m². Torn between two sizes? An AFS expert helps you choose based on your weight and your spot.
All three sizes share the same aspect ratio (2.72) and the same 33.5 cm (13.2 in) carbon bar. You keep the same upwind angle and the same feel under your feet when you switch sizes. The Power Loop system cuts drag on takeoff and widens the top of the range once you’re up and flying. When the wind leaves your Stow’s range, it’s time to switch sizes.
What size foil for your weight?
For the foil and the board, your weight comes first. Your skill level matters too. Use our foil finder, parawing discipline, to find your foil and your board. It doesn’t give a Stow size: that one stays a wind choice.
Already foiling? We recommend the Enduro front wing. Its aspect ratio is 11 across all sizes. In parawing, maneuverability and pumping matter most.
| Your weight | Front wing | Stabilizer | Mast (85 cm / 33.5 in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 kg (132 lb) | Enduro 800 (800 cm² / 124 sq in) | U Carve 140 | HR |
| 70 kg (154 lb) | Enduro 900 (900 cm² / 140 sq in) | U Carve 150 | HR |
| 80 kg (176 lb) | Enduro 1000 (1,000 cm² / 155 sq in) | U Carve 150 | HM |
| 90 kg (198 lb) | Enduro 1100 (1,100 cm² / 171 sq in) | U Carve 160 | UHM |
| 100 kg (220 lb) | Enduro 1300 (1,300 cm² / 202 sq in) | U Carve 160 | UHM |
The heavier you are, the bigger the front wing. Expert rider? Go one Enduro size down. Pick your stabilizer from the U Carve family. To understand the HR, HM and UHM masts, read our mast comparison.
New to foiling? Go with the Evo foil full set, the range we recommend for beginners. It comes with its HM 85 mast, stabilizer and fuselage.
- under 60 kg (132 lb): Evo 1250;
- 60 to 74 kg (132 to 163 lb): Evo 1450;
- 75 kg (165 lb) and up: Evo 1650.
Our foils are made in France, at our factory in Brittany. Every front wing is designed and tested by our design office.
What size board for parawing?
To get started, we recommend the Fly One board:
- under 65 kg (143 lb): 5’8 (90 L);
- 65 to 74 kg (143 to 163 lb): 6’0 (105 L);
- 75 to 84 kg (165 to 185 lb): 6’2 (115 L);
- 85 kg (187 lb) and up: 6’4 (125 L).
Once you ride on your own, move to a mid-length. To see what this shape brings, read what’s a mid-length board.
FAQ
What size parawing do I need?
Start from your usual wind. Between 15 and 30 knots, take the Stow 3.5 m². In lighter wind, take the 4.5 m² (12 to 25 knots). In stronger wind, the 2.5 m² (25 to 40 knots). Not sure? Book a call with an AFS expert.
What size parawing should a beginner get?
Size the Stow to your usual wind, as above. On the foil side, start with the Evo in the size that matches your weight. For the rest of the gear and safety, read how to parawing.
Do I need one or two parawing sizes?
One is enough if your wind stays in its range. With the 3.5 m², that’s 15 to 30 knots. A second size lets you ride in lighter wind (4.5 m², 12 to 25 knots) or stronger wind (2.5 m², 25 to 40 knots). To know which one to add, an AFS expert helps you based on your weight and your spot.
Does a heavier rider need a bigger parawing?
We size the Stow by wind first. Between the 2.5 and the 4.5 m², your weight and your spot come into play: ask an AFS expert. Your weight mostly sets your front wing size: at 100 kg (220 lb), we recommend the Enduro 1300.
Does my front wing size depend on the wind?
For parawing, we pick the front wing based on your weight and your skill level. The wind sets the parawing size.
What comes with the Stow?
A carry bag and a harness loop come with the Stow.
