Updated on October 13, 2026.

Here are the AFS wing foils recommended for each rider profile: beginner, freeride, freefly, carving, freestyle, and racing. There isn’t one foil that’s best for everyone. The right foil depends on your riding style and your weight.

This article focuses exclusively on the AFS line, designed by our engineering team. It covers the foil: front wing, stabilizer, mast, and fuselage. The entire line is featured on the wing foil page. For sails, boards, or a package, visit the wings, boards, and packages pages.

Which wing foil should you choose based on your profile?

Here is the setup we recommend for each profile, for a rider weighing 75 kg. We developed it in collaboration with our riders and our engineering team. The kite size changes depending on your weight: see below.

The four parts of a foil: the front wing carries the rider, the stabilizer balances the foil at the rear, the mast connects the foil to the board, and the fuselage connects the wing, the stabilizer, and the mast.

What size front wing should you use based on your weight?

The heavier you are, the more surface area you need. For the Enduro and the Silk V2, here are the sizes we recommend based on three weight ranges. These are estimates from our team. For the Evo, the sizes by weight range are listed in the beginner section, just below.

Which foil should you use to get started with wing foiling?

Our recommendation: the Evo full foil. The Evo front wing is available in 950, 1250, 1450, and 1650. Its aspect ratio ranges from 7.5 to 8.1. This ratio compares the wing’s wingspan to its width—our article on aspect ratio explains it. It’s made of HR carbon with a Corecell core.

Here is the size we recommend based on your weight:

The Evo complete foil kit comes with an HM 85 mast, a U-Cruise fin, and a standard fuselage, along with covers and hardware. You don’t need to choose anything else.

Which foil is best for wing foil freeriding?

You’re already flying effortlessly, stringing together turns and tacks. Our recommendation: the Enduro front wing. As long as you’re just starting out in freeride, stick with the Evo. Once you’ve mastered that, the Enduro is the next step up.

The Enduro has an aspect ratio of 11. Its “bump” profile was designed in collaboration with Laurent Borgna. It comes in seven sizes, ranging from 600 to 1300. It is made of monolithic HR carbon. Weighing 75 kg, our benchmark is the Enduro 1000 with a U Carve 160 stabilizer. We recommend the short fuselage for maneuverability and the standard fuselage for glide.

Which foil is best for freefly?

In freefly, you fly with the wing released and alternate between gliding and pumping. You need a wing that maintains its speed and regains lift. Our recommendation: the Enduro. The Enduro 900 is the all-terrain wing in the lineup. The Enduro 1300 is designed for freefly in light winds.

At 75 kg, we recommend an Enduro 900 with a U Carve 150 fin. For technique: how to pump in wing foil.

Which foil is best for carving?

You’re looking for tight, aggressive turns. Our recommendation: the Silk V2 front wing. It was designed in collaboration with Laurent Borgna. It comes in six sizes, ranging from 650 to 1150. It’s designed for intermediate to expert riders—it’s not a wing for beginners.

At 75 kg, we recommend a Silk V2 750 with a U Surf 120 fin. Note: The complete Silk V2 foil set comes with an UHM 80 mast. For wing foiling, we recommend 85 cm. For technique: how to jibe while wing foiling.

Which foil is best for freestyle?

Our recommendation: the Pure Fuselink front wing. The Pure was co-designed by Axel Gérard and our R&D team. Axel is the GWA freestyle surfing world runner-up (2024 season). He won the first GWA Indoor World Cup in Düsseldorf in January 2025. He sums it up this way: “In competition, this foil lets me maintain my speed even after pulling off tricks. I don’t lose my flow—I can keep the action going.”

The Pure is made of UHM carbon and is designed for experts. It comes in 600, 700, and “900” (880 cm² actual). The fin position is adjustable: move it forward with a small fin for freestyle. We recommend a U Carve 130 fin. For wing size, consult an AFS expert.

For the technique: how to jump while wing foiling.

Which foil should I use for wing foil racing?

Our recommendation: the Pure Fuselink wing paired with a UHM 95 RACE mast. The Pure is designed for freestyle and speed. For free-race, we recommend mounting the fin in the rear position and using a large fin.

Our rule: no 95-cm masts for wingspans over 1 m. The Pure stays within that range (708 to 900 mm). The complete Pure foil comes with an UHM 85 mast. For racing, get the wing and the 95 RACE mast separately.

Which mast should you choose for wing foiling?

We recommend an 85-cm mast for all wing foil disciplines except racing (95 RACE). AFS manufactures its masts in four construction types: HR (65, 80, 85 cm), HM (80, 85), UHM (80 to 95 RACE), and UHM Skinny (75, 80, 85).

Our mast comparison states: “These four lines have the same stiffness and are all made of carbon. What varies is the wall thickness and, consequently, the mast’s glide.” It recommends the HR for beginners and those looking to improve, and the UHM for expert riders.

Complete foil or individual parts?

The complete foil set includes the front wing, fin, mast, and fuselage, along with covers and hardware. It’s a simple choice for a first purchase. The separate parts let you customize your foil: change the wing, add a fin, or extend the mast.

The stabilizer included with the complete foil kit isn’t always the one we recommend. For example: the Evo 1450 complete foil comes with a U-Cruise 220, but we recommend a U-Cruise 245. Details on what’s included can be found on each complete foil’s product page.
