Rigid stand-up paddles

We offer a wide range of high performance rigid paddles for all levels, at the best prices and excellent quality. For years, our Nahskwell brand has been offering a selection of rigid, lightweight and sturdy paddle equipment to suit all types of boating.

Here we answer your questions on how to choose the right rigid SUP board for you, according to shape, weight, level and discipline, from touring to racing to surfing!

How to choose the right rigid paddle?

How to choose the right rigid paddle?

If you are new to paddleboarding, choose a wide board, with a comfortable tail that is not too pinched. The best is to have a round nose. Avoid boards with a lot of length to have better versatility and a little maneuverability: go for a length between 9 and 11 feet maximum. The most important thing is that you are stable, so the width is at least 31 inches. The perfect example is the paddle Skool, with pads covering the entire deck to protect it from shocks, or its little brother, the Kool. Those who want a multi-practice board can choose the Summerboard, for foiling and windsurfing with the family.

Cruising and race rigid paddle boards

If you have an intermediate level and are looking for a paddle board with a nicer gliding sensation, without putting yourself in difficulty, the touring paddle are ideal for you. If we keep the width to avoid the frustration of a board that is not very accessible in terms of balance, we increase the length (at least 11 feet), and therefore the efficiency of the paddle. We often have a sharper nose to cut through the chop. The Fit paddle fulfills this role perfectly if you are looking to glide on the water for hours without tiring yourself out unnecessarily! However, its size makes it much less agile in waves than the Kool.

For those who want to push performance even further, we switch to sup race boards. Much thinner and longer (often less than 28″ wide and over 12’6 long), these very fast, but unstable models are designed for competitive practice, where the main criterion of choice is speed. Very few brands still offer them, such as starboard. Buy only if you’re an accomplished rower!

SUP boards for surfing

There is one for every type of condition, and we offer you many choices in this range! Generally speaking, these paddles are short to be maneuverable, under 9’5 feet (except the Longboard in the specific program). They have a round nose, to grip well on the wave. For starting paddle surfing , the Get Up is ideal with a balanced shape and a rectangular tail which provides stability. More experienced surfers will have the opportunity to choose between more pinched tails for a very dynamic approach, such as with the Snap Paddle and Surf HV, or rectangular tails and powerful outlines like the Maxi G and the Prism which work wonders in softer conditions. Finally, those who want to combine a ride and a wave will be seduced by the Fluid which is an all around board, which lives up to its name. Its super versatile shape opens all the spots with disconcerting ease. And if you want to go even further and be able to also consider windsurfing and wingsurfing, the all-purpose board exists! We promise you incredibleversatility and a great community with Sealion Wings and Sealion Strapped.

Boards for SUP Foil

The practice of SUP foil has been taking off for several years, and rightly so. The sensations provided are absolutely magical. If you have to be an experienced rower to be able to hope to try foiling, the game is clearly worth it. The playing field is immense: if you can stay on the edge, downwind is becoming more popular and sees riders covering distances of several dozen kilometers. Obviously, we have thought of you with models specifically developed for foiling. If you’re just starting out, you’ll want to consider a stable and easy-to-access board, like the Fly model, which also works very well as a wing foil. Ideal for discovering several facets of foiling at once! A little more suitable for rowing and even more versatile, the Sealion are of course there with reinforced cases specifically to accommodate a hydrofoil. For the more experienced, the Holy Grail of downwinding and paddling is materialized in the form of the Blackbird. This board with its revolutionary shape, entirely made of carbon fiber and breathtakingly light, provides an indescribable gliding feeling. For those who want to revolutionize their way of seeing the discipline.

Regarding the inflatable, we’ve prepared a specific article on the subject which deserves further development.

Accessories for rigid stand-up paddles

Adjustable paddles

Essential, the best is clearly to opt for carbon, or a mix with fiberglass, with a composite blade. Aluminum and plastic are best reserved for schools or first-price packs, as they lack rigidity and are heavier, so they’ll tire you out faster without being very effective.

Leash

It’s the safety accessory you don’t want to be without. For smaller budgets, opt for straight leashes. Simple and functional, they are a little less comfortable than accordion leashes, which have the undeniable advantage of not dragging in the water or on the deck.

Covers

To protect your paddle and travel, our Nahskwell cover is tailor-made for maximum protection in all conditions. Available in sizes up to 10’2.

Fins

Your rigid paddle likes good fins: composite is best, especially for long-distance and performance, but FCS also offers excellent products, ideally suited to surfing. Check out our complete stand-up paddle guide.

F.A.Q.

Foil And Co is the parent company of AFS. Its main mission is to relocate the production of our board sports equipment to France. Today, the company has 42 employees and is based in Brittany. We develop, produce and market under AFS. We also have 2 other brands, AHD and SEALION.

AFS was born within the AHD entity in 2009, with the launch of the first windsurf foil combo (board plus production foil). The historic model is the AFS-1, a foil dedicated to light wind freeride practice, with small sail surfaces (5.5m² in 10 knots of wind). Its field of use was later extended to SUP foils, with the Sealion range of boards, making it the first Stand Up Paddle-compatible foil on the market (2011). 2017 saw the launch of the AFS-2, a new-generation foil developed and manufactured in France. With it, AFS takes off and becomes a fully-fledged entity dedicated to foils. AFS’s vocation is to offer a more high-performance foiling experience, while retaining top-notch accessibility and stability to provide all riders with a safe ride thanks to full carbon construction. Thanks to our know-how and high standards, we are the leading foil manufacturer in France. At AFS, our customers feel they are listened to and supported in their choice.

AFS Advanced is a branch of AFS working on the development of an innovative experience. It’s a concentration of AFS know-how taken to the extreme. Being one step ahead and opening up new horizons in the world of foiling: that’s the role of AFS Advanced. It’s our way of concentrating our know-how and expertise to produce the most advanced designs. It’s the essence and the future of AFS. The essence of our know-how, pushed to the limits of its performance.

Our head office is located in Brittany, more precisely in Pencran, Finistère. We are located Espace Joseph Rolland – 29800 PENCRAN

All AFS foils are manufactured at our company in Pencran, France. All AFS Advanced boards are also made here. Some of our boards are made in Tunisia at Terminatech, as are our covers. Finally, although we haven’t yet managed to make the leap, our wings are now made in China, although all R&D is carried out in-house.
