Here is the AFS wing foil we recommend for each rider profile: beginner, freeride, freefly, carving, freestyle and racing. There is no single best wing foil for everyone. The right foil depends on how you ride and how much you weigh.

Which wing foil should you choose for your riding style?
Here is the setup we recommend for each profile, for a 75 kg (165 lb) rider. We built it with our riders and our engineering team. At a different weight, the front wing size changes: see below.

The four parts of a foil: the front wing lifts the rider, the stabilizer balances the foil at the back, the mast connects the foil to the board, and the fuselage joins the front wing, the stabilizer and the mast.
What size front wing for your weight?
The heavier you are, the more area you need. For the Enduro and the Silk V2, here are the sizes we recommend at three reference weights. They are estimates from our team. For the Evo, sizes by weight range are in the beginner section just below. Front wing sizes are in cm²: 1,000 cm² is about 155 in².

What is the best wing foil for beginners?
Our pick: the Evo Foil Full Set. The Evo front wing comes in 950, 1250, 1450 and 1650 cm². Its aspect ratio ranges from 7.5 to 8.1. Aspect ratio compares the wingspan to the width of the wing: our article what is aspect ratio explains it. It is built in HR carbon with a Corecell core.

What is the best wing foil for freeride?
You already fly with ease, and you link runs and tacks. Our pick: the Enduro front wing. While you’re still new to freeride, stay on the Evo. Once you’re past that stage, the Enduro is the next step up.
The Enduro has an aspect ratio of 11. Its bump profile was designed with Laurent Borgna. It comes in seven sizes, from 600 to 1300 cm². It is built in monolithic HR carbon. At 75 kg (165 lb), our benchmark is the Enduro 1000 with a U Carve 160 stabilizer. We recommend the short fuselage for maneuverability and the standard one for glide.
What is the best wing foil for freefly?
In freefly, you ride with the wing let go and mix gliding and pumping. You need a front wing that holds its speed and pumps back up easily. Our pick: the Enduro. The Enduro 900 is the all-terrain wing of the range. The Enduro 1300 is for freefly in light wind.

What is the best wing foil for carving?
You want tight, powerful turns. Our pick: the Silk V2 front wing. It was designed with Laurent Borgna. It comes in six sizes, from 650 to 1150 cm². It is made for intermediate to expert riders: it is not a front wing to learn on.

What is the best wing foil for freestyle?
Our pick: the Pure Fuselink Foil. The Pure was co-designed by Axel Gérard and our R&D team. Axel is the GWA surf-freestyle world vice-champion (2024 season). He won the first GWA indoor World Cup, in Düsseldorf, in January 2025. He puts it this way: “In competition, this foil keeps my speed alive after the moves. I don’t lose the flow – I can link combos together.”
The Pure is made for expert riders. It comes in 600, 700 and “900” (880 cm² actual area). The stabilizer position is adjustable: forward with a small stabilizer for freestyle. We recommend a U Carve 130 stabilizer. For the front wing size, ask an AFS expert.

What is the best wing foil for racing?
Our pick: the Pure Fuselink with a UHM 95 RACE mast. For free-race, we recommend the stabilizer in the rear position, with a large stabilizer.
Our rule: no 95 cm mast with a front wing over 1 m (39.4 in) in wingspan. The Pure stays below that (708 to 900 mm, 27.9 to 35.4 in). The Pure Fuselink complete foil comes with a UHM 85 cm mast. For racing, buy the Pure and the 95 RACE mast separately.
What mast length for wing foiling?
We recommend an 85 cm (33.5 in) mast for every wing foil discipline except racing (95 RACE). AFS makes its masts in four constructions: HR (65, 80, 85 cm), HM (80, 85 cm), UHM (80 to 95 RACE) and UHM Skinny (75, 80, 85 cm).
Our mast comparison puts it this way: all four ranges have the same stiffness and are all carbon. What changes is the thickness, and so how the mast glides through the water. It recommends the HR to learn and progress, and the UHM for expert riders.
Complete foil or separate parts?
A complete foil includes the front wing, stabilizer, mast and fuselage, with covers and hardware. It keeps a first purchase simple. Separate parts let you upgrade your foil: change the front wing, add a stabilizer, go to a longer mast.
The stabilizer included in a complete foil is not always the one we recommend. Example: the Evo 1450 Foil Full Set comes with a U-Cruise 220, while we recommend a U-Cruise 245. You’ll find what’s included on each complete foil’s page.

Yes, the Flyer Full Set. The Flyer front wing comes in 1500 cm² up to 75 kg (165 lb) and 1800 cm² above that.

Can a freestyle or race foil work for beginners?
No. The Pure Fuselink is made for expert riders. Start with the Evo.
